An automation tip that saved me hours

Hey friends!

This week we’re kicking our 3 things off with an automation that has saved me hours in a month. I’ve mentioned Akiflow on my YouTube channel before but specifically it’s the Akiflow automation features that work with Notion.

I used to use Notion to track all of my projects and tasks and then Google Calendar for my time-blocked schedule. This system worked for a long time (it’s practically what got me to where I am today!) but the problem is I would also have to schedule in time in the week to reconcile between the two tools.

If for some reason I forgot to check off tasks within Notion for a few days, suddenly I’m having to back track throughout my Calendar schedule to see what’s been done and when I did it so I can update the Notion task. This became such a headache after a while, especially during extra busy times when I have multiple deadlines in one week.

I started using Akiflow about a year ago and boy has it changed the game for me. Dare I say I don’t think I’ll ever switch calendars again?

Here’s how Akiflow helps:

  • It integrates with Notion (and a ton of other productivity systems) and will automatically pull in your tasks
  • These tasks live in a inbox for you to schedule into your calendar
  • There are 3 types calendar entries you can create within Akiflow: Tasks, Events, and Slots
  • When you check a Task off in Akiflow you can adjust the settings so that it automatically changes a property within Notion
  • You can also adjust the settings so that when you schedule a task into your Akiflow calendar, it automatically changes the “date” property within Notion as well

This workflow is incredible. I’ve been raving about it to all my Notion-using friends for months so it’s about time I shared it with you too!

I wrote an article on the Feel Good blog where I explain exactly how this work so you can get all the details here.

2 more things

A year of the snake phone case I actually like. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for Lunar New Years. However, I do get sick of all the red and gold sometimes (especially since I’m a silver tech girl at heart). Casetify sent over this black and silver year of the snake phone case and honestly I love it.

A YouTube related newsletter. I’ve been following Tintin’s newsletter on Substack for a while and he recently wrote about how he went viral but doesn’t care. Here’s the quote that stood out to me: “This is what it means to choose who you can help, how you can help them, and where you can reach them. Ignore everything else.”

His newsletter is a great read for anyone who’s curious about starting YouTube.

Other interesting things

A clean and easy to use app to track your diet. - I did the free trial and really enjoyed using this. However, I don’t think I’ll continue to track my macros—just isn’t for me. But if you do, this is the perfect app.

A fun way to share things you love. I actually discovered this through a TikTok ad but loved the idea of it. It’s simple, create curated lists of things you love and share it.

If you try out Akiflow, let me know! I’d love to hear what you think of it.

Same place same time next week!
